When you think about class 4A football in the state of Alabama, one of the teams that sticks out is the Alexandria Valley Cubs(AL). That's where GamedayRecruits.com was on Thursday night to take in the action for the first regular season game of the season. Alexandria is a staple each year in the playoffs and have won championships in, "85, "95, and "97. There quest for another begin Thursday night when they took on the Anniston Bulldogs(AL) in what turned out to be a defensive slugfest. Alexandria senior running back Terrell Stewart's 3-yard run off right tackle into the end zone with 11:54 to play was the only touchdown scored in the Valley Cub's 9-0 shutout of Anniston. It capped off a 10-play, 37 yard drive. It was the only offense they needed. The Alexandria defense was very stingy only allowing only 188 total yards of total offense and zero points. The Bulldog's defense was also up to the task only giving up 144 yards of total offense to the Valley Cub's. It was the penalty's and turnovers that was Anniston's Achilles heel. An intentional grounding penalty called on Anniston in the end zone with 7:01 capped off the scoring with the final 9-0 Alexandria on top.Next Friday GamedayRecruits.com will be in Foley High School(AL) to cover there game against Baldwin County.
